Facilities that cannot stop running while we work.
Most of our work happens in occupied, operating buildings. We plan around production schedules, clean areas, and shutdown windows instead of asking the facility to plan around us.
Data centers
Mechanical piping, chilled water systems, pipe insulation, and HVAC on new builds and expansions. We self-perform the full mechanical scope and leave the electrical to the electricians.
Pharmaceutical and biotech
Lab and clean environment build-outs, process piping, casework, and mechanical insulation held to documented tolerances.
Light industrial
Manufacturing and processing plants where the mechanical scope has to fit a short window without touching production.
Water and wastewater
Treatment plants and pump stations where piping, insulation, and corrosion protection have to survive a wet, chemically aggressive environment.

Each of these sits on our California contractor license. Our own people do the work instead of a chain of subcontractors with separate schedules and separate stories about what went wrong.
Mechanical insulation
Pipe, duct, vessel, and equipment insulation across hot, cold, cryogenic and cyclic systems, including removal and replacement around operating lines. We fabricate removable insulation covers, so valves and flanges that get opened for service do not have to be stripped and rebuilt every time. We also do fire protection insulation on grease ducts and fire penetrations, and we have worked marine and offshore.

Piping and plumbing
Holding the plumbing classification in house means we set the piping sequence ourselves. On a mechanical scope piping usually drives the schedule, so controlling it directly keeps a shutdown window from slipping.

Millwork and casework
We build casework rather than order it. When an opening is not standard or a custom order carries a twelve week lead time, our own shop closes the gap. We run a five by twelve foot CNC router for machined panels, precision components, and parametric wall systems that have to be cut to a model rather than a drawing.

The general building classification lets us hold the prime contract and carry the whole scope, including trades outside our own four. You sign one agreement and hold one company responsible for the result.

Site walk
We look at existing conditions, access, and the constraints your operation puts on the schedule before we price anything.
Code review and drawings
We handle code analysis and produce stamped construction drawings, so the permit path stays our problem.
Scope and sequence
You get a written scope tied to a sequence, phased around shutdown windows or occupied areas where those apply.
Self-performed execution
Our crews run the insulation, piping, millwork, and building scope. Outside trades come in only where work falls outside our classifications.
Inspection and closeout
We carry every permit to final inspection and hand over the documentation your facility records need.
Safety and prequalification
Licensed, insured, and straightforward to verify.
Everything below can be checked against the public record before you put us on a bid list.
Our current EMR is 1.0. The rate letter from our workers' compensation carrier is available on request.
Job hazard analysis before each phase, daily toolbox talks, lockout and tagout coordinated with plant staff, and hot work permits pulled through your process.
General liability, workers' compensation, and auto. Certificates and additional insured endorsements go out the same day you request them.

Leadership
Amer Abusafieh
Founder and President. Responsible Managing Officer on the license.
Amer was born in Jordan and moved to the United States permanently in January 1986, going straight into construction. He completed a union apprenticeship and earned his Journeyman Heat and Frost Insulator card in 1995, then spent years working inside refineries, power plants, pharmaceutical facilities, offshore platforms and ships. He became a licensed California general contractor in 2003, opened a cabinet shop in Pittsburg, and ran energy audits and mechanical insulation upgrades before founding Ecostep in 2015. He still walks every job and prices every scope.

Bring him the scope, the constraints, and the date it has to be finished. He sets the site walk, pulls the prequalification documents your procurement team needs, and stays on the job through closeout.
Brian Newth
Field execution, crews, and mechanical scope
Brian runs the work in the field, from crew assignment and sequencing to how a shutdown window actually gets hit. He is also principal of Checkmate Mechanical LLC.
